The feet are the one part of a runner’s body that must endure a lot of impact. One of the most important shock absorbers of the foot is a piece of tissue that runs from the ball of the foot to the heel – known as the plantar fascia. The plantar fascia is the main support for the arch of the foot and, without it, running would be impossible. Unfortunately, the impact and strain that the plantar fascia endures during running can cause it to tear and became inflamed. One important treatment option is night splint treatment for plantar fasciitis.
Treating an inflamed plantar fascia is no easy task. Scar tissue is quick to form on a damaged plantar fascia, which can greatly decrease mobility and cause pain. Perhaps the worst time of the day for plantar fasciitis is at night, when the fascia is in a constricted and tightened position for hours. Sufferers of plantar fasciitis generally feel a lot of pain when they get out of bed in the morning and try walking on the tightened fascia.
If you have been unable to heal, you should consider night splint treatment for plantar fasciitis. A properly designed boot or splint gently stretches the fascia and helps increase blood supply to the injured area. There are two ways to stretch the plantar fascia: the plastic night boot, and the dorsal night splint.
The plastic night boot has a hard plastic outer layer and cushioning interior. It basically functions as a cast for your foot and is a little bulky to wear to bed.
The dorsal night split attaches to calf and front of the foot. There is a strap between the attachments, which helps to gently stretch the plantar fascia. Dorsal night splints are not as bulky as the plastic splint.
Plantar fasciitis is a difficult injury to heal, but using the night splint treatment for plantar fasciitis will hopefully help to speed the rate of recovery.
