One of the biggest mistakes that potential college runners make is thinking that college coaches will contact them. Unless you are an exceptionally talented high school runner, it is unlikely that very many college coaches will actually seek you out and contact you.
It is also important to realize that college coaches can not make first contact with recruits until after September 1st of the athlete's junior year. Because of this, it is critical that you make the effort to reach out to coaches and express your interest in his program. Many college athletic web sites include prospective recruit forms for you to fill out and/or contact information for coaches. Here is a list of the web addresses of recruit forms and coaches’ contact pages for some of the best Division I cross-country/track programs in the United States.
Please realize that schools seem to change their web site addresses all of the time, so if you find any dead links let me know.
